Jen Yang Mezei Twitter @jenmezei school board candidate for Burnaby Citizens Association supports ADHD students in BC schools and will ask BC Education Minister Rob Fleming to follow through on his promise to ADHD students in BC to add ADHD as a stand-alone category in special education so ADHD students can get accommodations and IEP’s (Individual Education Programs.) #IEPsForADHD
Thanks @jenmezei I hope other school board Trustees in Burnaby will follow your lead and commit to asking BC Education Minister Rob Fleming when he will fulfil his promise to ADHD students add ADHD as a stand-alone category in special education that he made more than 10 months ago (December 4th, 2017).

@hipmum29 @petequily It's a year ago this week that I presented with @BCCPAC to the SSCFGS for more funding for #bced K-12 public education including funding for students with high incidence special needs. "Over the last sixteen years, many have forgotten that

the original per-pupil funding was intended to cover all needs of high incidence special needs students such as early intervention, assessment, service and support for a range of students with varying diagnoses such as dyslexia, ADHD and students requiring behaviour support.”

The Funding Model Review and the revision to the Special Education Policy Manual are happening now. I have and will continue to advocate for funding and policy to ensure that students receive the supports and services they require to have equitable access to education in #bced.

Still NO category for #ADHD in special education, despite:
1. March 2017 B.C. Ministry of Education spokesperson, saying it will be in if approved.
2. BC education ministry draft supporting it done in Sept 2017
3. Rob Flemings Dec 4 2017 promise he'll do #IEPsForADHD #bced pic.twitter.com/MbVVwdWat7

The changes to the Inclusive Education policy manual haven't been published yet. The draft you mention from Sept 2017 will help educators & parents understand the learning challenges supports needed for students with #ADHD. I will definitely advocate that it be incl in the manual

And will you commit to asking #BCNDP Education Min rob fleming when he will announce the new special education designations that would include #ADHD? Or at minimum a timeline? Would that be in the inclusive education policy manual? #IEPsForADHD #bced #Burnaby #elxnBBY18 #bcpoli pic.twitter.com/KClhHcuoOa

Still no firm date on when the new Inclusive Education manual with ADHD as a designation will be coming, I will ask.

If you see any other political parties or independent school board candidates who have any policies on the biggest number of students with special needs, ADHD in their platform, please thank them and send me that information so I can post it online.
Always important to reward good behaviour on ADHD because it is so rare by politicians.
